Deli Winthrope, paediatric occupational therapist
Occupational Therapy Behaviour Support Practitioner

I'm Deli, an Occupational Therapist and qualified Behaviour Support Practitioner with over 10 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, adults and their families across specialist education and community settings.

I have extensive experience working with people with autism, intellectual disability, mental health challenges, emotional and behavioural differences, trauma, and other neurodevelopmental presentations. I particularly enjoy supporting those with complex and overlapping needs, taking the time to understand the factors influencing behaviour, participation and wellbeing.

My work is grounded in a simple belief: behind every behaviour is a feeling, need or experience that deserves to be understood. Rather than focusing solely on reducing behaviours, I work collaboratively to understand what's driving them and identify practical, evidence-based strategies that support meaningful participation, emotional wellbeing and quality of life.

I currently provide mobile Occupational Therapy services for both children and adults. I have a special interest in mental health, behaviour and emotional regulation, drawing on my experience as both an Occupational Therapist and Behaviour Support Practitioner. My approach is person-centred, strengths-based and collaborative, recognising that the best outcomes occur when individuals, families, support teams, educators and other professionals are working towards shared goals. Having worked within a transdisciplinary model for many years, I place a strong emphasis on collaboration and capacity building, ensuring the people around an individual feel confident and supported to implement strategies consistently across environments.

My background in nursing further strengthens my ability to consider the medical, developmental and psychosocial factors that influence health, behaviour and everyday functioning, allowing me to take a holistic view of each person's needs.

As a parent of two young children, I understand firsthand the challenges that may arise in daily routines, big emotions, and transitions. I pride myself on offering practical, realistic strategies that fit into real family life. These are approaches I use in my own home as well.

Whether you're seeking support for yourself, your child or someone you support, my goal is to help create meaningful, lasting change by building on strengths, understanding individual needs, and empowering the people around them with the knowledge and confidence to move forward.
